Bob’s nearly 40-year beloved career as an educator culminated at the Woodbridge School District in Delaware after serving as administrative assistant, high school principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent from 1973 until retirement in 2000. He perfected the skill of listening, and “coaching” each individual; whether student, teacher, or fellow administrator, to grow, to learn, to dream and to be better than they thought they could be even if the process made them uncomfortable.A Gifted and Talented program, Basics Plus School, Wellness Center, Sussex County Alternative School, successful referendums, building renovations and recognition of the contributions of district/community members were all accomplished while maintaining quality personnel and sound fiscal management.Upon graduation in 1957, a football scholarship to UNC with Coach Jim Tatum, as well as running track, taught Bobby the difference between high school and university sports. Graduation from Atlantic Christian College in 1962 with a BS degree in history and physical education led to head football coach/teaching positions at West Stanley High School, Cherryville High School and North Hampton High School. His charisma, unconventional approach, steadfast commitment and love of simply having fun endeared him to students, staff and community members.Upon his father’s death, he again realized academics as top priority.Mary graduated from Wicomico High School in Salisbury, Md.She was a 20 year employee of Walmart and a 19 year member of Post 19 Auxiliary, Laurel American Legion.
Earning his Ph D from the University of Maryland in 1979 was one of his greatest personal accomplishments.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker, caring for her family and enjoying dear friendships - some of which lasted for over 50 years.
She never met a stranger, and in her own easy, comfortable way, she would reach out and start a conversation with any person standing nearby.
